Composer and songwriter for major national and international artists. He writes classical music and hymns, gospel, pop music, country songs, blues and rock. His lyrics are in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, English and German. Has won several song writing competitions, and been awarded a number of platinum trophies for sales. Jan has written songs for, among others, Placido Domingo, Sissel Kyrkjebø, Wenche Myhre, Roy Rogers, Shana Morrison, Carol Dennis and a large number of other national and international artists.

Fire in your Heart
In 1994 Jan wrote the Norwegian and English texts of the official song of the IX Olympic Winter Games at Lillehammer. “Se ilden lyse” and “Fire in your Heart”, recorded by Placido Domingo and Sissel.
As a songwriter, he won in 1994 both the 1st and the 2nd awards at TV2’s competition for the best new Christmas song. One of these songs is the very popular Heaven on earth (Himmel på Jord).
Jan wrote lyrics and music of the official song on the occasion of the Norwegian National Television (NRK) fund-raising campaign in 1997: ”Hold You Against my Heart” (Halde deg inntil meg).
Cowriter, with Lars Muhl, of the official song of the Norway March (Norgesmarsjen), “Footprints of Love” / “Kjærlighetsspor i sanden”. Has composed the title track of the classical instrumental CD “En rose i snøen” (A Rose in the Snow), recorded by the pianist Wolfgang Plagge and the violinist Pjotr Janowski. Wrote, with Svein Gundersen, the title song for the CD of The Salvation Army, “Julegryta” (The Christmas Kettle), released at Christmas 2001.
